Your Future Employee
- Annie Blewett is a senior Media Arts and Design student with a concentration in corporate communications and a minor in creative writing. She has taken many valuable courses, such as corporate media writing, web communication, feature writing, mass communications law, culture by design, and news editing.
- Annie will graduate in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts from James Madison University in Virginia, but she will be graduating with far more than a degree. Annie has tremendous leadership experience, and has developed a good work ethic and a passion for people.
Professional Experience
- During the summer of 2009, Annie volunteered her time as the social media intern at Profiles, Inc., a public relations firm based in Baltimore, Maryland. As social media intern, Annie worked on a variety of projects researching mediums that were appropriate for the company to reach its constituents and culminated her efforts in a social media proposal that highlighted ways the company could join the conversation. She also gained experience with Cision, media tracking, media clips, and event planning.
- Since the beginning of the 2008 school year, Annie has been working as the director of special events for the University Program Board. This position entails managing a committee of 15 students and planning series events on campus. Most of the events Annie plans are alcohol-alternative programs, that encourage students to stay on campus to have fun. In January of 2009, she was selected as the president for the 2009-2010 school year and has since selected and trained her executive council of 13 students. As president, her job is to oversee the organization with a $350,000 budget, ensure valuable membership for those involved in UPB, empower fellow members of the executive council, and provide quality programs for the 17,500 JMU students. Annie conducts weekly executive council meetings and monthly general body meetings.

National Association for Campus Activities (NACA)
- Annie first attended the NACA conference in the fall of 2008 and had a fantastic experience. Her enthusiasm for the conference led her to apply for a student position on the regional conference planning committee. Annie’s role as the foundation fundraising coordinator was included devising a fundraising plan to collect money from the attendees for the NACA foundation and executing it at the October 2009 Regional Conference. Additionally, she presented an educational session about transitioning officers to other students throughout the region.
Student Leadership Summit
- Annie gave an instructional seminar on how to plan successful on-campus events to other student leaders in February of 2009. She currently serves on the planning committee for the February 2010 conference.

Volunteer Work
- Annie’s volunteer work for the last two years has been with the non-profit organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters. She mentors an elementary school student weekly. She also attended an alternative spring break trip in March of 2009 to San Ysidro, Ca. to work with immigration issues. The non-profit she worked with was Casa Familiar.

Special Skills
- Annie is proficient on a Macintosh computer and has knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator as well as Dreamweaver and iMovie. She has taken basic Italian and five years of Spanish classes.

- September 2008- Comedian Craig Robinson, best known for his role in The Office, performed at a medium-sized venue on campus, selling roughly 950 tickets and earning more than $5,000 in revenue.
- Funny Freakin’ Fridays, a monthly comedy series, was executed on the first Friday of each month to provide students with alcohol-alternative programming in a small venue. The venue was at full capacity each month.
